JOB AT NATIONAL INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT AGENCY: Director of Laboratory Unit : ( Deadline : 06 February 2019 )

Job Description

– Provide leadership to the Laboratory services Unit.

– Develop quality laboratory quality assuarance systems and procedures and ensure effective monitoring of laboratory performance standards.

– Provides direction, monitor, reviews and evaluate achievement of laboratory services performance targets.

– Provides overall coordination of Laboratory services activities by setting goals and objectives for the Unit’s success.

– Oversee the effective implementation of laboratory information systems.

– Ensure proper utilization of both the laboratory services unit’s financial and human resources

– Oversee, review and direct the actions of the team members’ assignments, to ensure that staff meet their goals and deliverable deadlines.

– Encourage communication and facilitate institutional cooperation and shared work.

– With support of Corporate services division, develop and monitor Unit’s strategic plans and budgets, ensuring projects are completed on time;

– Propose training tools to the NIRDA management team to enhance staff performance and skills development;

– Support the management team in the recruitment of the Unit’s personnel.

– Train and appraise staff.

– To perform any other duties assigned by the HoD.

Job Profile

Master’s Degree in MicroBiology, Chemistry, BioChemistry, Medical Technology, Industrial science, Biotechnology, Food Science and Technology with a minimum of 10 years’ work experience, including 5 years experience in a Lab managerial position. PhD is an added advantage.

Key technical skills and knowledge required:

– Strong command of written and spoken English

– Extensive understanding of the national, regional and international contexts of laboratory quality assuarance policies

– Experience in laboratory systems and procedures

– Advanced relationship management skills, including partnering, group facilitation, interviewing, consulting, and influencing.

– Advanced leadership skills, including coaching, team
– building, problem solving, conflict resolution, consensus
– building

– Experience in dealing with a diversity of stakeholders both in public sector and/or private sector

– Experience in new industrial business lines, automation and technology for laboratories

– Business management skills

– Excellent reporting and presentation skills.

– Strong computer literacy, especially good command of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Job Description

– Leadership of the Technology Monitoring and Knowledge Management of Unit, overseeing, reviewing team members’ assignments.

– Provide leadership and assistance to team members; provide technical direction and work
– related advice.

– Oversee, review and direct the actions of the team members’ assignments, to ensure that staff meet their goals and deliverable deadlines.

– Encourage communication and facilitate inter
– individual cooperation and shared work

– Set goals and objectives for the division’s success.

– Provide oversight and technical assistance on Value Chain analysis assignments.

– Oversee value chain assessments that use a range of research techniques and consultation processes to engage key private sector actors;

– Produce a technical report on each value chain, with clear proposals for possible NIRDA intervention;

– Regularly monitor changes in the selected value chains;

– Advise Director General and Senior Management on knowledge of value chains that the institution pursues to develop

– Oversee NIRDA’s Knowledge Management and Knowledge Sharing mandates ensuring regular distribution publications to relevant stakeholders.

– Contribute to the NIRDA senior management team decision making processes.

Job Profile

Master’s degree in Information Technology Management, Information Systems, documentation Studies, Systems analysis, System Management or Library Science with one year of relevant working experience or Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology Management , Information Systems,documentation Studies,Systems analysis, System Management or Library Science with 3 years of relevant working experience.

Key technical skills and knowledge required:

– Strong command of English

– Extensive understanding of the national, regional and international contexts of industrial research and development agenda

– Advanced relationship management skills, including partnering, group facilitation, interviewing, consulting, and influencing

– Advanced leadership skills, including coaching, team

– Ability to provide innovative technical solutions, strategies and options to complex and critical technical issues affecting multiple disciplines and work groups
